Janith Homes support adults with learning disabilities with varying needs at its main site The Rookery plus two further homes – Strawberry Field, over the road from The Rookery, and St Brannocks, along the coast at Mundesley . We are able to support people that have physical disabilities and our main house has been adapted to support ageing service users enabling them to remain in their home for life. We are able to make a difference to lives and those we support, by offering a homely, family-run home.
We are situated near the sea and The Rookery is in large grounds, giving service-users space to be themselves. We treat everyone as an individual to maximise their potential.
The Rookery has lift and hoisting facilities, and we have varied vehicles to get out and about, including a wheelchair vehicle. We have a learning room with internet access. There are weekly classroom activities to learn new skills, including numeracy and literacy, arts and crafts and cooking. A music therapist visits the home once a week. In our garden we have a wheelchair swing and a variety of seating and a lovely summer house for all to enjoy in the warmer months.
We are able to access the much loved North Norfolk coast and spend days enjoying the beach where we play games, have walks and enjoy a picnic. Some enjoy horse-riding with the local Riding for the Disabled Association. We love walks in the local Bacton Woods as well as trips to Cromer Pier, cinema, theatre, bowling, café, eating out. We access the local library and also, for those who find it difficult to get out and about, have a mobile library visit the homes.
The surroundings are beautiful, with The Rookery set in large grounds with a farm where we are able to walk and see the animals. There is a pond area where we enjoy having a picnic and some service-users can camp there. There is also a camp fire area where we can sing. We are close to many beautiful areas – Wroxham, Sheringham, Cromer – all easily accessed either by our own transport or by using buses or trains. We have very good relationships with the local community.
We have a good staff team with a good skill mix. We promote in-house training and further development in NVQs. We have also introduced E- learning. We offer lots of service-specific training to ensure our staff’s knowledge is up to date and relevant to enable them to do their work to a high standard.
