Our Homes

The Rookery is a Victorian manor house, set in 22 acres of grounds which is registered for 36 service users. Accommodation provides single occupancy rooms, communal areas including a spacious living room and smaller quite lounge, large conservatory for dining and other activities, treatment room for visiting professionals and a large room for learning activities, meetings and staff training. The Rookery supports a diverse range of abilities and needs, through to end of life care and has lift access to all floors.

The Rookery also offers accommodation in one, two and three-bedroomed self-contained cottages for those who are able to live more independently. These are converted barns and purpose built units set with the grounds. There is a wheelchair swing and outdoor activities on the large front lawn, a small wooded area and access to walk around Barrington Farm paddocks and the beautiful and tranquil pond area. The setting of the Rookery and our service users has created a unique and welcoming atmosphere that few visitors do not experience.

All meals are home-cooked, nutritious and meet various dietary needs of the service users.
There are daily activities including use of the learning room, music therapy, access to Barrington Farm’s superbly equipped sensory room, horse-riding, walks, shopping, pub visits, theatre and cinema to name a few. Special dates are celebrated during the year, including Pancake Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Service users are also able to access day services at Barrington Farm for an added cost.

Strawberry Field
This is a spacious bungalow located opposite the Rookery and is home to four service users, with sleep-in staff overnight. The accommodation provides single occupancy bedrooms with en-suite and a self-contained flat above. There is a large homely living area with patio doors to the gardens and an open plan kitchen/diner.

The service users enjoy the independence of looking after their own home and large gardens, growing fruit, vegetables and flowers. They are actively involved with their own household shopping with staff support. Strawberry Field enjoys many of the activities of The Rookery and more independent access to the community. The home benefits from open views across the fields and countryside.

St Brannocks
This homely and inviting three storey Edwardian house is located in the popular coastal village of Mundesley and is home to eight service users, providing sleep in staff overnight. The single occupancy bedrooms are mostly en-suite with a spacious communal living room with patio doors to the rear gardens, dining room and large kitchen. A self-contained flat for single occupancy is also located on the ground floor as part of the registration. The large gardens have been carefully laid out to provide flower borders, lawns and relaxing areas.

St Brannocks benefits from being a short walk to the sea front and promenades and the local facilities and shops that Mundesley offers.

How we started
Janith Homes was founded in 1978 by Janith Bastow, when she invited a small group of adults with learning disabilities to live at the Rookery. Since then, the home has developed and grown into the successful company it is today. Following Janith’s death the company has been run by her son Martin and her sister Patsy is one of the company directors.

Janith Homes quickly gained a reputation for being person centred and enabling service users to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

The day service facilities at Barrington Farm with the renowned Artbarn celebrated thirty years in 2017 with the addition of a full equipped Sensory Room with hoist facilities in 2013 enabled in part by the legacy of a former service user.

Staff & training
All the staff of Janith Homes work within the ethos of the home to promote service users’ independence and meet their individual needs. We believe in promoting a high level of mandatory and service specific training to give our staff the skills and knowledge they need to work effectively.

We invest in and promote staff progress including NVQs. All new staff undertake an induction programme which also includes The Care Certificate. We offer a range of training methods including in-house and external providers as well as e-learning. Staff are encouraged to be open and transparent and to bring new ideas forward in our regular staff meetings.
